‘Mikres Meres’ by Kostas Macheras won the INTERFILM Jury Prize, whilst ‘Eastern Elegy’ by Aleksandr Sokurov won the Grand Prize of the City of Oberhausen at the 42nd West German Short Film Festival in 1996. Inge Kirsner and Heike Kühn report on the festival. At the church reception, director Matthias Müller spoke on ‘The Cinema of Difference – On the Situation of the Experimental Short Film’.

"Ladybird, Ladybird" by Ken Loach won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the Berlinale 1994. The Prize in the Forum was awarded to "The Strategy of the Snail" by Sergio Cabrera from Colombia.
