Keita! Voice of the Griot
Keïta! Das Erbe des Griot
Directed by:
1995

In his film, the director illustrates a legend of his home country Burkina Faso in a lively and humorous way. An old storyteller - a so-called griot - succeeds in inspiring a young boy from the city about the richness of this tradition. By juxtaposing the original culture with the modern way of life through these two characters, without pitting them against each other, the film pleads for understanding between generations.

Assassin
Der Mörder
Directed by:
1995

During the filming of a crucifixion scene, the young Christ actor has a fatal accident. Called to account by the police, the director reflects on the loss of humane and cultural values in post-perestroika Russia. Boris Airapetyan sketches a state of consciousness between collective memories and personal visions by means of an unusual visual language and brilliantly arranged use of musical pieces from different eras.
