Carla Moretti, brilliantly portrayed by Alba Rohrwacher, is consumed by her work at an insurance company and communicates with her son only through a mobile phone. The film holds up a mirror to the hypocrisy of a workplace culture that preaches inclusion, humanity and joy while rewarding competition, productivity and profit. With great intensity and stylistic coherence, it exposes the ethical contradictions of capitalism. The film issues a heartfelt appeal to all who watch it: this is how humanity is lost — a challenge to our Christian conscience. By exposing the contradictions of our prevailing value system, it invites us to reconsider what — and whom — we choose to value.
