"Kein Wort" (Not a Word, Germany, France, Slovenia 2023) by Hanna Slak won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the Warsaw Film Festival 2023. The Grand Prix of the festival went to "La sombra del Catire" (The Shadow of Catire, Venezuela, Mexico 2023) by Jorge Hernandez Aldana. In addition to the International Competition, the festival shows films in five other competition sections. The Fipresci jury chose its winner "Elfogy a levegő" (Without Air, Hungary 2023) by Katalin Moldovai from the Competition for First and Second Films (Competition 1-2).

The festival opened with the Polish competition entry "Song of Goats" by Andrzej Jakimowski. The Ecumenical Jury has been awarding its prize since 2010.

The successful conductor Nina is living in Munich with her teenage son. Lars closes himself off in his grief because a friend burned to death. Nina doesn't want to believe that her son is involved in the tragedy. Both can’t talk about, but spend a few days on an island. After a long silence they find their communication.

The movie is about mother love, difficulties of generations, of communication, mourning work and finding together in rough surroundings.
