In her search for the significance of the Holocaust for her own life, Irene Lilienheim-Angelico composed "Bitter Lullabies", which evoke questions of "what" and "why" in the generation of Jewish and non-Jewish post-war children. The picture of reality in the past and present that emerges in this way is not only unusually differentiated and fair, but also encourages personal debate and further reflection.
