Roland Wicher studied Protestant Theology, History of Art and Science of Religion in Frankfurt (Main) and Berlin. He has been a member of INTERFILM since 1999 and was a member of numerous ecumenical juries at Oberhausen, Mannheim and Berlin. He has published several articles on the relation of film an theology, holds lectures and seminars on the topic and has done research on religion, violence and the aesthetics of film, especially focussing on the works of Martin Scorsese. At present he is Film Commissioner of the Evangelical Church of Berlin - Brandenburg - schlesische Oberlausitz (EKBO9 and Jury Delegate of INTERFILM organising the work of the Ecumenical Jury at the Berlin Film Festival (Berlinale). He works as pastor for the parish of Berlin-Mariendorf.

Current issues

An interreligious jury has chosen the film "Orphan" by László Nemes as winner of the Interfaith Award at the Hungarian Film Week 2026.
