Piet Halma (*1950) has a broad experience in communications, public broadcasting and peace keeping. He served at the ecumenical broadcaster IKON in the Netherlands and the Council of Churches in the Netherlands. He was vice-president of the World Association for Christian Communication (WACC), and president of WACC Europe, an NGO that cares for the communication rights of the voiceless in our world. He was advisor of the Board and Management of PAX, an NGO in the Netherlands that works for peace, reconciliation and justice in conflict areas around the world. At the moment he is book- and film critic for a daily newspaper in the Netherlands.

The Dutch feature film "Zomervacht" (Summer Brother) won many prizes last Saturday at the 23rd Transilvania International Film Festival in Cluj in Romania. In this film directed by Joren Molter the main characters are two brothers, one of whom is physically and mentally disabled.

Current issues

Following the promising nominations, the Oscar ceremony felt like a disappointment. For the first time, the Academy had nominated international films such as “Sentimental Value” from Norway and “Secret Agent” from Brazil in the Best Picture category. Yet in the end, it was American productions that walked away with all the awards.
Film director Selma Vilhunen has won the Church Media Foundation’s 2026 prize for her documentary film 'Gate to Paradise' (Portti Paratiisiin).
