Jean-Paul Käser studied theology at the University of Neuchâtel and graduated with a licentiate in 1991. He first worked in public social work, then returned to his passion for everything connected with old and new languages, and passed the German state examination as a translator in 1998. Since then he has worked as a freelance translator from French, as editor and proofreader. He is a long-standing member of the Biel institutions Filmgilde and Filmpodium, spends a considerable amount of his free time in the cinema seat and is occasionally involved in the Reformed parish of Biel.

‘Northern Outskirts' (Nordrand) by Barbara Albert was the winner of the 4th European John Templeton Film Award for the year 2000. The film tells the story of two young women in Vienna who lost touch after leaving school and meet again at an abortion clinic.
INTERFILM member Hans-Martin Gutmann traces a narrative arc from his departure for the KVIFF 2026, through his work on the festival’s Ecumenical Jury and its decision on the winner, right up to his return.
