Ileana Bîrsan (*1975) is a film critic and educator. She graduated the Faculty of Philology, University of Bucharest, and studied film at the University of Zürich. Since 2007, she has been writing articles about cinema for various publications and has participated as a lecturer in various programmes of cinematic education. She is co-founder of DokStation Music Documentary Film Festival. In 2017, she codirected with Claudiu Mitcu the documentary "The Trial". Currently she is completing a PhD at CESI (Centre of Excellence in Image Study). She is also a film production coordinator at Wearebasca production company. In January 2024, Ileana Bîrsan, along with other members of SIGNIS Romania, co-founded FILMIKON, an international festival showcasing films awarded by ecumenical juries, where she also serves as the festival director.

Following the promising nominations, the Oscar ceremony felt like a disappointment. For the first time, the Academy had nominated international films such as “Sentimental Value” from Norway and “Secret Agent” from Brazil in the Best Picture category. Yet in the end, it was American productions that walked away with all the awards.
Film director Selma Vilhunen has won the Church Media Foundation’s 2026 prize for her documentary film 'Gate to Paradise' (Portti Paratiisiin).
