Jochen Mündlein (*1989) is a scholar of religious studies and a deacon of the Lutheran Church in Bavaria. He is currently a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Protestant Theology at LMU Munich, working on a dissertation exploring the religious function of science fiction films in contemporary culture. He works as a research associate at the University of Graz, Fundamental Theology. He is a member of the Media and Religion Research Group and actively involved in the international research group Film and Theology. His academic contributions include publications, seminars, and lectures on film, religion, and theology. Member of INTERFILM.

Current issues

Peter Paul Huth comments favourably on the 2026 Venice Film Festival awards ceremony, highlighting in particular the Golden Lion winner, “Kvinde Ukendt” (Unknown Woman) by May el-Toukhy, and “Un bon petit soldat” by Stéphane Brizé, which won the award for Best Screenplay and the INTERFILM Jury Prize.
Alex Gibney’s documentary *Musk* portrays a ‘hero of capitalism’, whilst Ilya Khrzhanovsky’s *DAU* evokes the victims of Stalinism.
