In 2004, the Max Ophuels Prize celebrated its 25th anniversary. A total of 167 productions of various formats were screened. “Muxmäuschenstill” by Marcus Mittermeier (Germany, 2003) won the festival’s Grand Prize as well as the Audience Award. The INTERFILM Jury awarded its Prize to “Der gläserne Blick” (Dead Man's Memories) by Markus Heltschl (Germany, Austria, 2003) and an Honorable Mention to “Mondlandung” (Moon Landing) by Till Endemann (Germany, 2003).

At first glance, the film begins as a crime thriller. But the search for answers quickly moves beyond this superficial premise. It leads into a different, more subtle dynamic of human existence that can no longer be categorized within the framework of everyday routine. In this hall of mirrors, identities are constantly being reassembled. Nothing remains static; nothing can be pinned down.

Inspired by a documentary film project, “Moon Landing” offers a credible glimpse into the living conditions of a Russian-German immigrant family, while also drawing on fictional elements typical of a feature film.

Through its direct cinematography, provocative music, and—not least—the outstanding performances of its cast, the film unfolds with a special intensity.

With this Commendation, the Interfilm jury wishes to honor the consistency of this project, which was realized despite limited production resources and which, precisely through its adherence to the Russian language, succeeds in vividly portraying the sense of alienation.

The INTERFILM Jury awards the INTERFILM Prize, endowed with €2,000 and donated by the Evangelical Church District on the Saar, the Förderverein Projekt Johanneskirche, and the Film Commissioner of the Council of the EKD.
