In Saarbruecken in 1985, an INTERFILM jury attended the festival for the first time and awarded its prize ex aequo to *Malambo* by Milan Dor and to *Raffl* by Christian Berger, who also won the Max Ophüls Prize awarded by the festival jury. The INTERFILM jury also awarded a commendation to “Lieber Karl” by Maria Knilli. The SZ Readers’ Jury Prize, awarded from 1980 to 1997, went to “King Kongs Faust” by Heiner Stadler, whilst the Audience Award went to “Wiener Brut” by Hans Fädler.

The prize, awarded by the INTERFILM jury for the first time, is endowed with 2,000 DM, donated by Concorde Film.
