A 75-year-old German peasant woman, deported to Kazakhstan in 1941, decides before she dies to fulfil her two lifelong dreams: to find her son Stefan, whom she lost track of in 1953 while fleeing the Gulag, and to return to her native land near the Volga River. Accompanied by her sister, she embarks on a long journey. This film is a moving and authentic portrait of today's Russia.
