The film portrays the life of a village in post-soviet Russia with all its poverty and the devastating legacy of the Stalinist heritage, especially for human relations. The viewer is confronted with a experience of life which can almost be called post human. The jury found that the film was very well made, that it showed moments of very creative and courageous camera work.

"Melody of the Street" shows the fullness of life and especially the celebration of life - full of love, laughter and hope. The background is a rather rundown street, but even the colours of apparent poverty do not conquer the joy of life.
