Karlovy Vary

"The Cakemaker", an Israeli-German co-production directed by Ofir Raul Graizer, won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury in Karlovy Vary 2017. The Krystal Globe, the Grand Prix of the festival, was awarded to the Czech competition entry "Little Crusader" directed by Vaclav Kádrnka. The Fipresci Jury of the International Film Critics awarded "Keep the Change" by US film director Rachel Israel.

12 films, from Bosnia-Hercegovina, France, Georgia, India, Israel, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Czechia, Turkey and the US constituted the international competition of the 52nd International Film Festival Karlovy Vary. Competing for awards were also the films of the "East of the West" and the Documentary Films sections. "How Victor 'TheGarlic' Took Alexey 'The Stud' to the Nursing Home" (Kak Vitka Chesnok vez Lecha Shtyrya v dom invalidov) won the East of the West Grand Prix. Best documentary was "Lots of Kids, a Monkey, and a Castle" (Muchos hijos, un mono y un castillo) by Gustavo Salmerón from Spain. A number of information sections as "Horizon" or "Another View" added to the festival programme which included about 200 films.
