The jury has awarded its prize to MIKRES MERES (Short Days) for its account of a boy’s escape: separated from his grandfather and father, and left to fend for himself after a journalist distorted and exploited his story, he refuses to give up hope.

‘Mikres Meres’ by Kostas Macheras won the INTERFILM Jury Prize, whilst ‘Eastern Elegy’ by Aleksandr Sokurov won the Grand Prize of the City of Oberhausen at the 42nd West German Short Film Festival in 1996. Inge Kirsner and Heike Kühn report on the festival. At the church reception, director Matthias Müller spoke on ‘The Cinema of Difference – On the Situation of the Experimental Short Film’.
