Le Passé is another triumph for writer/director Asghar Farhadi. His last film at Cannes, A Separation (2011), opened to acclaim and went on to win the Palm d’Or and later the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. That film examined in painful and thrilling detail the dissolution of a marriage in modern Iran, along with the human and societal pressures surrounding such an event.
