The film deals with the fateful experiences of Czech refugees in Switzerland. The director depicts the integration efforts of these asylum seekers and the setbacks they encounter on the basis of an excellent literary source material in a successful mixture of ironic distance, satirical exaggeration, and human warmth, without allowing the film to slip into superficial comedy or sentimental pathos. It is precisely this light-hearted treatment that brings this burning issue closer to the viewer than would have been possible with many an overly serious documentary.
