The Swiss filmmaker Bernard Safarik, himself an emigrant from Czechoslovakia many years ago, uses his story to attempt to vividly illustrate to the viewer the fate of a refugee couple – she from South America, he from a country in the East – and to highlight how laws and xenophobia can lead to inhumane behaviour.
