A boy from a Russian garrison that is being withdrawn and a girl from a small town in East Germany. Through the fates of these two children, the film captures moments of a missed encounter. It shows how the children and their stubbornness become lost between two worlds that have remained alien to one another. In awarding this prize, the jury expressly recognises the performances of the two young lead actors and the poignancy with which the director portrays their alienation from their family roots.
