Opening film: Good Evening, Beautiful (© DOK Leipzig 2026)
On 26 October, DOK Leipzig 2026 will open with the documentary 'Good Evening, Beautiful' (Guten Abend, du Schöne, Germany 2026) by Ina Borrmann, which asks its protagonists about the personal significance of Maxie Wander’s influential book “Guten Morgen, du Schöne” (Good Morning, Beautiful), published in the GDR in 1977, and invites them to look back on their lives. The retrospective is dedicated to the radical political cinema of Latin America in the 1960s and 70s, and a tribute to the Czech director Helena Třeštíková. The Interreligious Jury, appointed by INTERFILM and SIGNIS, will award its prize to a film from the international documentary competition.
