This culvert is located in my hometown, a path I traversed almost daily throughout my childhood. Locals have always referred to it as ”Hei Dong Dong“ (the Dark Channel). To me, it exudes a minimalist, tranquil beauty reminiscent of wabi-sabi. Especially on rainy days, when rainwater flows into the tunnel, the water’s surface mirrors the surroundings. Toads and spiders go about their quiet activities, while passersby walk by as always, fading into the distance.

It is both a geographic passage and a vessel of time. Standing at the center of the tunnel, I noticed that the upper and lower, left and right sides mirrored each other, giving rise to various connections.

I want to present the unadorned, poetic quality of facts. I believe that ”everything lies within the things themselves.“This film is composed of four shoots across three seasons: spring, summer, and autumn. (Yu Zhe)
