Bittere Ernte

Upper Silesia, 1943. After Rosa, a Jewish woman, escapes from a freight train and thus deportation to a concentration camp, she finds refuge with Leon, a farmer. He nurses the distraught woman, who is suffering from fever and fear, back to health. But Rosa, who lost sight of her husband and son during her escape, struggles with how to assess her ‘savior.’ For although Leon, a Catholic, is a sympathetic, helpful man, he is also a war profiteer whose modest prosperity is based on the suffering of others.
