In 1979, INTERFILM and OCIC established the third ecumenical jury (after Locarno and Cannes) at the World Film Festival in Montreal. It awarded its prize to “La isla” (The Island) by Alejandro Doria (Argentina, 1979). The festival jury, chaired by Sergio Leone, awarded the prize for best actress to the film's leading actress, Gaciella Dufau. The festival's main prize, the Grand Prix des Amériques, went to “1 + 1 = 3” by Heidi Genée (Federal Republic of Germany, 1979).
Note: In the lists of winners of ecumenical juries by Guido Convents and Hans Hodel, “La isla” is named as the winner. According to the festival's web archive and the Internet Movie Database (IMDB), “La isla” received a Special Mention from the Ecumenical Jury and “Night Flowers” by Louis San Andres (USA 1979) the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury.
