Born in 1952. Studies in literature and languages in Marburg. 1980-1990 free lance film and tv critic, writing for the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" and the "Frankfurter Rundschau". Book chapters on Roman Polanski, Akira Kurosawa and Wim Wenders. Head of the Film Cultural Centre in the Joint Evangelical Association for Media Communication (GEP) in Frankfurt am Main (since 1990). Co-editor of the filmbook series "Arnoldshainer Filmgespräche" (till 2009). Manager of the Evangelical Film Jury in Germany and Executive Director of INTERFILM.

Karsten Visarius honors the deceased vice-president of INTERFILM
The 3rd International Conference on Religion & Film takes place at Syracuse University, New York, on March 30 - April 1, 2017.
The Frankfurt based Evangelical Film Jury has honoured "Toni Erdmann", directed by Maren Ade, as FILM OF THE YEAR 2016. The award cermenony took place in the German Film Museum in Frankfurt on December 10, 2016.
The INTERFILM seminar in Uppsala (June 9-12, 2016) discussed the basis and perspectives of the church film commitment. The following General Assembly elected a new board and confirmed Julia Helmke in her office as president.
"Words With Gods" is an omnibus film by nine artists initiated by the Mexican film director Guillermo Arriago to inspire interreligious dialogue. It was screened and discussed at the INTERFILM Conference entitled "Making Visible the Invisible Through Film" at Uppsala (Sweden), 9-12 June, 2016. Karsten Visarius, film critic and executive director of INTERFILM, introduced the film.
The short film "If I Ruled" by Jenni Kangasniemi and Aino Suni has won the Church Media Foundation Award "Look At Me" at the 34th Oulu International Children's and Youth Festival.
As best film of the year 2015, the Protestant Film Jury in Germany has awarded the Iranian winner of the Berlinale, "Taxi Teheran" by Jafar Panahi.
